Padre completed a removal action for a proposed Alternative Education School located in Oakdale, Stanislaus County, California. The removal action consisted of the excavation and off-site disposal of approximately 1,800 cubic yards (insitu) of toxaphene impacted soil. Removal action field activities began on October 18, 2010 and were completed on November 22, 2010. Confirmation soil sampling was conducted when the extent of planned soil excavation activities were completed. Soil samples were collected from the bottom and side walls of the excavation area and chemically analyzed for the presence of organochlorine pesticides by U.S. EPA Method 8081A. The results of the confirmation soil sampling and subsequent screening level risk assessment indicated that the objectives and standards of the response action have been met. The water well was permanently abandoned prior to the start of school construction in accordance with the California Department of Water Resources water well abandonment standards. Post-Remedial Action Work Plan site conditions do not pose a significant threat to human health or the environment under an unrestricted land-use scenario. Therefore, no further action was recommended by Padre. The Department of Toxic Substances Control concurred with the Removal Action Completion Report in a letter dated February 17, 2011.
