Padre was involved with oil well abandonment, facility abandonment, and site assessment/restoration activities within the Cat Canyon Oil Field between 2001 and 2009. The oil production facility, comprising 10,000 acres across 13 properties and at one time containing over 400 oil wells, underwent partial abandonment, which included abandonment of oil wells, demolition of storage tanks, and removal of pipelines in accordance with state and local regulations. Padre worked on behalf of Chevron to develop scopes of work and cost estimates, negotiate with regulatory agencies and landowners, procure permits, and manage the required scope of work. Padre also completed partial abandonment of a tank battery facility coupled with successful wildlife habitat mitigation, while concurrently managing a 20 well per year abandonment package. Padre’s role included management of the health and safety program, safe work permit issuance, contractor management, fluid and waste management, well excavation assessment and chemical analyses.
